Best kept secrets about….VITAMIN C

I came upon this article touting the multiple valuable benefits of Vitamin C. This article came right on time for me in my life considering I’ve been battling extreme adrenal fatigue.

If you didn’t know, our adrenal glands (which sit on top of our kidneys) are the work-horse of the body in my opinion. These glands produce important steroids (cortisol, glucocorticoids, etc) that affects our blood sugar, circadian rhythm (ability to wake up in the AM/go to sleep at night), how we store fat (too much cortisol increases our ability to store more fat…thus too much stress=> weight gain), affects our energy levels, our sex drive, and many other aspects of our bodies, mind, and emotions.

As you can see, these little glands can pack a whopping punch to our health if we don’t do the things necessary to keep them balance.

Now how does vitamin C enter this picture? Well, adrenal glands and vitamin C are like “peas & carrots” or “Forest Gump & Jennnnayy” 🙂 When our adrenals are overworked and stressed, our vitamin C stores deplete…BIG TIME!

As pointed out in the article, vitamin C isn’t just for immune health! I think it’s a vital part of daily health and well-being. It’s changed my life in more ways than one. It’s helped with my adrenal fatigue, it’s kept me from being hypoglycemic (side effect of adrenal fatiuge), decreases my morning brain fog, regulates my bowel health, and just makes me feel GOOD!

Check out this article and read more on how vitamin C can possibly make you feel good too!!

The top 10 breakfast cereals most likely to contain Monsanto’s GMO corn

As a follow-up to last week’s post, here is an article that names popular cereal brands that contain genetically modified corn products. Many of us probably consumed a lot o these cereals either as children or at some point in our adulthood. I know they taste good (coming from a former sugar cereal lover)..but here is more proof why these cereal brands are not good for you and your long-term health. Despair not!! There are yummy healthy and non-GMO alternatives you can switch to 🙂

Shocking findings in new GMO study: Rats fed lifetime of GM corn grow horrifying tumors, 70% of females die early

Note from Vitamin Ray: This article is great evidence as to why I am against genetically modified food and the high occurence of it in the food that we eat everyday. When you go to the supermarket, if a package does not say “100% organic” and “Non-GMO” then you are probably purchasing food containing ingredients that have been manipulated and chemically altered in a lab somewhere.

Even with foods that ARE labeled “Non-GMO” might have trace amounts of or cross-contamination with GMO foods due to the lack of regulation with food labels and manufacturing processes. However, I always pick  the product labeled “Non-GMO” versus the product that fails to say whether it is GMO or not because I know in this case LESS is BEST!

Please click the link and read the following article carefully and keep this knowledge with you the next time you go to the grocery store. Enjoy the read!! ~Vitamin Ray

Mushrooms: Unsuspected Superheroes for Saving Life On Earth!

Salutations my friends! On this glorious morning, I was directed to a TED Talk link on Paul Stamets (aka “The Mushroom Man”). Paul Stamets is a brilliant award-winning  mycologist who champions for the incredible benefits of fungi and how life on earth would be nonexistent without our precious mushrooms. He firmly believes mushrooms are our ecological saviors in a future where the human species are pushing our existence closer to the brink of our own extinction and many other species too.

I’ve read many articles and book excerpts proclaiming the unbelievable healing properties of mushrooms. Mushrooms can be our solution to eradication of certain viruses, controlling invasive insect populations, preventing and curing cancer, rebuilding damaged ecological systems, creating new ecological systems from practically nothing, and many more. Check out the video link below to learn more about the powerful benefits of mushrooms. I encourage you to look up more of Paul’s lectures. As always…knowledge is power!! Namaste.

Caffeine may not be the devil after all!

I was perusing on Huffington Post and came across this new article highlighting a research study that links caffeine from coffee to delayed onset of Alzheimer’s. Click on this link to read more.

NEW REALITY OF STUDENT LOANS

Hello folks!

One of my good friends enlightened me today to an article written in The Wall Street Journal titled:

To Pay Off Loans, Grads Put Off Marriage, Children

Unfortunately, this seems to be the new reality for many current and post students such as myself. While I have faith that I didn’t make it this far in my path to fail and end up bankrupt, some others are not as fortunate in preventing that travesty for themselves. Please take a moment to read the article. I’m sure either you or someone you know might be in similar predicaments.

Also, you can help take a stand in helping graduates have a fighting chance post-graduation by making sure you vote for political representatives who are IN FAVOR of student loan forgiveness. Starting this year, the Federal Subsidized Student Loan program is being phased out. Students will now be forced to rely on Federal Unsubsidized and Grad Plus loans (interest accruing while still in school), as well as, private loans (this worse of the offenders due to uncapped interests rates and shaky contractual agreements). This is SERIOUS! Do not believe this is only the “youth” of America’s problem…this will ultimately affect us all and serve an a future indicator for our economy.

Okay…I’m coming off my soapbox. For more information about petitioning to allow student loan forgiveness programs, please check out this link.

Magnesium & High Blood Pressure

I often read the Natural Medicine Journal to see what are the latest evidence-based research studies that prove the validity of naturopathic medicine treatments. The most recent study I read about was on the effects of magnesium on lowering high blood pressure. The study yielded significant results. In science jargon, it means that the effects were not a fluke and indicates promise in the use of magnesium for future treatments in hypertensive patients.

Below is the link for the research article. Perhaps at your next doctor’s visit, you can show him or her a copy of the study if you’re one of the thousands of people who suffer from hypertension. If you don’t have the condition, then pass along the article to someone who can also benefit from this knowledge. Remember, knowledge is power!
